Notes for Winter Camping
- NO COTTON on winter trips
- Stay Dry = Stay Warm
- Dress in layers
- Inner layer - Wicking Thermals (Polyester, Capilene, Polypropylene)
- Insulation layer - Fleece, Soft-shell, Down
- Outer layer - Protection from weather (GORE-TEX, Nylon)
- Waterproof Boots
- No tennis shoes!
- Layer socks (liner, VBL, Wool or fleece)
- All leather (treated with snowseal)
- Snowboard boots
- Sorel Pacboots
- Rubber boots with felt liners
- Sleeping
- Must have foam sleeping pad
- 0 degree sleeping bag (or 2 sleeping bags)
- Bivy sack
- Sleep with beanie hat on
- Sleep with water bottles
- Change into dry clothes to sleep in
- Don't exhale in your sleeping bag
- Handwarmer packets

- Sunscreen and sunglasses
- Buddy system to watch for signs of hypothermia
- Shivering
- Less alert
- Less coordination
- Drink lots of liquids (Include some electrolyte replacements)
- Foam sit pad

- White gas stoves only (No propane/butane)
- Easy clean-up meals
- Lots of food (body fuel)
